Best time to visit: find the best month for any destination

Type a destination and pick the kind of trip. See which months are most comfortable, scored from the real weather of the last two years.

How the best month is chosen

The tool looks the place up, then pulls two full years of daily weather measured there: the daytime high, the night-time low and the rain. For each month it averages the temperature and counts the days with rain, then scores how comfortable that is for the kind of trip you picked.

A beach trip wants it warm and dry. A city break is happiest in the mild middle. A hiking trip wants it cool and clear. The same month can score very differently for each, which is the point.

What it cannot tell you

Weather is only one reason to choose a month. This score knows nothing about crowds, hotel prices, school holidays, festivals, snow on a mountain pass, or a lodge that closes for the rains. Use it to find the comfortable window, then check those separately.

Two years is a small sample, and weather varies. If one month looks borderline, treat it as a close call rather than a rule.

Using it with clients

When a client asks "when should we go?", the answer is usually a trade between weather, price and crowds. Show the comfort months first, then tell them what the shoulder months, just either side, would save. Story of a Trip lets you put the recommendation straight into the proposal, with a forecast for the actual dates once they are set.

Questions

Where does the weather data come from?

From Open-Meteo, an open weather service that publishes measured daily history for any point on earth. The tool asks for the last two full calendar years.

Does it work for any destination?

For any place the search can find, from a capital to a small town. For a remote spot, search the nearest larger town.

Why does the same month score differently for beach and city?

Because the comfort range is different. A 30 degree day is ideal for a beach and tiring for sightseeing, so the tool judges each trip type on its own scale.

Does it account for monsoon, hurricane or snow seasons?

Only through rain and temperature. It does not know about cyclone seasons, road closures or snow depth, so check those for the destination.

Does the tool store what I search?

No. The lookup runs in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.
