Free tools / Flight search builder
Cheap flight search builder with flexible dates
Enter the trip once. Open it on three flight sites with the dates filled in, check the days either side, or search anywhere for the cheapest places to fly.
Six habits that usually lower the fare
- Move the dates by a day or two. Fares can differ a lot between neighbouring days, and the same trip a day earlier or later is often cheaper. The grid above opens each one.
- Try the airports around you. A second airport in the same city, or one an hour away by train, can be much cheaper. Search each code separately.
- Fly mid-week and avoid the peaks. Tuesday to Thursday departures are usually cheaper than Friday and Sunday, and school holidays are the most expensive weeks of the year.
- Price one-ways as well as the return. Two one-way tickets on different airlines can beat a return, especially on low-cost routes. Check both before you book.
- Look at the cheapest places, not only your place. If the destination is flexible, search anywhere and let the prices choose it. It is the fastest way to find a bargain.
- Check the total, not the headline. A low fare can lose its advantage once bags, seat choice and an airport transfer are added. Compare the full cost.
What this tool does and does not do
Finding a cheap fare mostly means running the same search several ways: a different day, a nearby airport, another site. This tool fills in the trip once and opens each search for you, with the dates already set. It does not read or show prices itself, so it cannot go out of date or favour anyone.
We earn nothing from the links. They are plain searches on each site.
Searching anywhere
Leave the destination empty and the tool opens a Skyscanner search for everywhere from your airport on your dates. The cheapest places come first. It is the quickest way to answer a client who says only that they want a week in the sun and a certain budget.
For travel agents
Flights are often the part of a trip that moves most between the proposal and the booking. Show the client a realistic fare range, say plainly that it can change, and note the date the quote is held until. Story of a Trip lets you add flights to a proposal and set the dates the price is valid, so a late change is easy to explain.
Questions
Does this tool show flight prices?
No. It opens the searches on Google Flights, Kayak and Skyscanner with your trip already filled in. Prices are shown there.
Why check the days either side of my date?
Fares can differ a lot between neighbouring days, and the same trip a day earlier or later is often cheaper. The grid opens each date with the same trip length.
Do I need airport codes?
Yes, the three letters, for example LHR for London Heathrow, JFK for New York or DEL for Delhi. Leave the destination empty to search anywhere.
Is there a best day of the week to fly?
Mid-week departures are usually cheaper than Fridays and Sundays, but it varies by route. That is why the date grid is there.
Do you store my searches?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.
